How to Reach

Approach Options:
1Using the Footpath (Easiest Option)
You can reach the climbing crags by following the footpath visible on maps like OpenStreetMap, Osmand, or Maps.me.

This path leads directly to the crags, and from a certain point,

you’ll notice stones marked with white paint to guide the way.
Alternative Route (A Bit Harder to Find)

  • Starting from the bus station,
  • take a tuk-tuk to the right for about 1 km until you see a petrol station.
  • To the left of the petrol station, there’s a palm plantation. Walk through the petrol station, head towards the back of the plantation, and exit on the back right.
  • Follow the sandy trail towards a rock formation, where you’ll see a water tower. Head toward the water tower, then veer left and ascend through a rocky area.
When the terrain levels out, a village should appear on your right; keep heading straight up toward the boulders.
For Saraswati Tower: When you reach the Boulder towers, turn left,
  • walk between the boulders, and you’ll see it down to your left. For Sunset Wall and Ganesha Area: After passing the village, continue straight between the boulders to reach a large plateau. Cross this plateau and move away from town, going through another small cluster of boulders to reach another plateau. Continue across this plateau, and you’ll see Sunset Wall on your left.
  • At the end of this second plateau, go through another cluster of boulders toward the back right. Walk across a small grassy area and head left; you’ll find a gorge with climbing routes on both sides.
This route offers scenic views and a true adventure, but be prepared for some navigation challenges.

Y its named as a power star

Climbing Style and Local Legacy Power Star offers some of the most varied climbing experiences in Badami, with styles that stand out as “anti-Badami” due to their unique features. This crag was named “Power Star” by local climber Ravi in honor of the beloved Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who is highly respected by the Badami community. Following the actor’s passing in 2021, many stories emerged about his philanthropic contributions, which were done anonymously, reflecting his humble nature.

Geological Insights At Power Star

Geological Insights At Power Star, climbers scale rocks that are around 1.8 billion years old, formed in what was once a lake environment. These sedimentary layers have transformed into arenite, with components of shale, limestone, and conglomerate.

The conglomerate layers, indicative of ancient floods, show evidence of cobbles and pebbles transported and deposited long ago. The presence of preserved ripple formations adds a unique historical touch to the landscape, hinting that this area was once submerged.

Exploring the Kaladagi-Badami Basin: A Geological and Cultural Climbing Gem

The Kaladagi-Badami Basin, a vast 8,300 km² area, where Power Star is located, has eroded more slowly than the surrounding plains, allowing these crags to remain elevated over time. Although climbers are high up on a layer of rock today, this is due to the gradual filling of sediments in the plain below, where the town of Badami now lies.
Power Star offers not only thrilling climbs but also a connection to the geological and cultural history of Badami, making it a must-visit spot for climbers and enthusiasts alike.

Each of these climbing spots offers unique challenges and scenic views, making Badami a premier destination for rock climbing enthusiasts of all levels. From beginner-friendly routes to challenging climbs, these areas showcase the best of Badami’s sandstone cliffs and natural formations.
One of the most popular climbing areas in Badami, the Temple Area features routes with scenic views of the ancient temples. Climbers can expect a variety of routes, from easy slabs for beginners to steep overhangs for advanced climbers.

It features longer routes that are ideal for intermediate to advanced climbers. With its mixture of vertical climbs and technical challenges, Ganesha Wall is a must-try for anyone looking to test their skills.
